Pregnancy is such a joyous time for the new parents. Unfortunately, it is also a time of morning sickness, back pain, hip pain, and sleeplessness. Many pregnant women also experience dizziness, moodiness, and are more susceptible to cold and flu bugs because their bodies are working so hard to make and bake a baby. While many of the symptoms of pregnancy cannot be avoided, like your ever-expanding baby bump, many symptoms can be eased to make pregnancy a lot easier and healthier for you and the baby. Here are a few things to keep in mind if you want a healthier pregnancy:
1. Nutrition and Exercise:
Your OBGYN has probably lectured you on the importance of eating healthy, taking your prenatal vitamins, and exercising regularly. It cannot be denied that all good health starts in the kitchen – meaning the food you eat. Regular exercise helps regulate stress and hormone levels. It can also keep your muscles flexible and strong, which is a necessity when your body is constantly changing.
2. Chiropractic Care:
Many pregnant women shy away from the chiropractor during their pregnancy. Rest assured, chiropractic care is safe for both mom and the baby. Chiropractors will take extra care of pregnant women. If you have a history of miscarriages, it may be best to wait until after the 12-week mark before you see a chiropractor. Not only is chiropractic care safe for you and the baby, but it also comes with a lot of benefits.
If you are suffering from morning sickness, you are not alone. Over 2/3 of pregnant women have some form of morning sickness during pregnancy. Many women have such severe morning sickness that they end up having to be hospitalized, such as the royal duchess, Kate Middleton. How in the world can chiropractic care help keep your stomach from churning? The chiropractor is able to gently realign the spine and help improve the nervous system. Many times morning sickness is related to the nervous system. Many women have had their morning sickness go away completely with chiropractic care, while others have experienced less nausea.

During pregnancy, the woman’s abdomen protrudes out causing the back to curve more. Pregnancy also causes the pelvic bones to shift to accommodate the growing baby. All of this adds up to a misaligned spine, which causes pain and discomfort in the mom-to-be as the baby continues to grow. Regular chiropractic adjustments relieve pain all over, from the back to the hips to the shoulder and neck. All pregnant women need chiropractic care, especially those who work long hours standing or sitting.
Reduces Time of Labor and Delivery:
One of the best benefits of chiropractic care for moms to be is that it can actually decrease the time of labor and delivery. Why? Simply put, an aligned body is a more efficient one, especially in an extremely stressful time like childbirth. Regular chiropractic care will also decrease the chances of a cesarean delivery.
3. Take it Easy:
Rest is a crucial part of pregnancy, however, moms to be either take this a step too far or don’t do it at all. Just because you are pregnant does not mean that you are bound to be stuck in bed or on the couch. However, now is not the time to try a new extreme exercise or try to do it all. Listen to your body. When it says to stop and take a break, do so, even if that means you have to ask someone for help. Enjoy this special time and the extra care and attention loved ones give you.
