If you’re having trouble sleeping, it may be time for a technology break. Between iPhones, tablets, Kindles and laptops, we’re all so plugged into the rest of the world, that it can be hard to let go for even a minute. However, some experts are suggesting that this constant wave of information can have some unexpected side effects like insomnia.
You see, having constant information thrown at your brain is a great recipe for an overactive mind. Don’t believe me? The next time you’re around a baby, pay attention to how the parents put her to sleep for the night. They don’t spend an hour jostling the baby or playing games; instead, the baby is readied for bed with soft words and a warm bath before going into a semi-darkened room for sleep. There’s a reason the phrase is “sleeping like a baby” instead of “sleeping like a middle aged businessman.”
If you want to learn how to sleep like a baby, then why not take some advice from your nearest infant? Spend an hour or so before bed getting ready to rest. Put the cell phone away (or turn it off altogether) and shut the computer off. Take a tip from baby by beginning a nighttime ritual. An evening bath or a warm cup of chamomile tea will signal to your brain that it’s now time for rest.
Everybody loves technology. Without it, you wouldn’t be reading this. However, there’s a time and a place for everything and late at night in your bed is neither the time nor the place.
